You go to your preferences under the Garageband menu. Under the Audio/Midi Tab you check the box that says audio units next to EFFECTS. Hope this helps.

Missing Audio Units Plug-In In Garageband 10
I hate the gimmicks of watching a video youtube tutorial. I'm not greedy for views I'll explain here quite easily myself.
You go to your preferences under the Garageband menu. Under the Audio/Midi Tab you check the box that says audio units next to EFFECTS. Hope this helps.
